…and we’re back!

Well autumn seems to have arrived over night and shorts and flip flops have been exchanged for coats and scarves as the heat of our amazing summer already seems like a distant memory. Canaan Project is also entering a new season with a few changes of its own.

This summer we said our final farewells to James (or Sideshow Bob as one young person affectionately wrote in his card!) who has moved on from the Canaan Project after 5 epic years. He will be greatly missed but has left a big impact and some large boots to fill (metaphorically and literally!!). I have been given the privilege of that task, alongside a brilliant team who will be introducing themselves in the coming weeks, and have loved spending the summer visioning and planning for the year ahead.

We also said goodbye to the Teviot Estate and the young people we’ve been working with there for the last 5 years. There is always sadness in endings when something’s been good, but we leave with great memories and with excitement that the area and its young people are going to have an amazing new facility and youth workers in Spotlight as it opens this term.

For Canaan Project this also means a new adventure as we develop our work started last year in the Globe Town area of Bethnal Green, focusing fully now on our work with young women. We are really excited about this new direction and chapter in our story and the opportunities and support we are going to be able to offer young women who often don’t access and therefore benefit from youth provision as much as boys. We sent out a little note to the group we’d been working with before the summer (pictured above) inviting them to our first session back. They all came, happy to see us and each other, and bubbling with stories of their summers and ideas for the coming term.

So as this new season begins we hope you will continue to journey with us and follow stories of our progress here on our blog. Happy Autumn everyone!
