Jumble Sale

This week we have been busily preparing for a jumble sale that is taking place this Saturday in the Cranbrook Community Centre where we work, organised by the estates Residents Association (TRA). Over the last few weeks we’ve been gathering and sorting (and trying on, as you can see…!) lots of clothes and other bits and pieces that are looking for a new home. A firm favourite is a three legged camel who one of our volunteers, Elika, has reunited with his 4th leg and nursed back to health. There is already a lot of competition for the opportunity to be his new owner! The girls have also been getting creative in the kitchen, baking brownies and flapjacks to sell to the hungry bargain hunters.

An important part of our vision for the girls we work with is to see them make sense of the world they live in so that they can not only benefit from it themselves but also contribute to the well-being of that world. So as well as providing us with a few giggles and an excuse to bake (and test!) some brownies, this is a great opportunity for us and the girls to get to know some of the community better and for them to get to know us. We are also hoping we might even make a little bit of money. The TRA suggested that the girls could put any money raised towards activities and resources for their club but the girls felt they also wanted to give half away and have chosen Cancer Research as their chosen charity. As always its a privilege to journey with these girls and give them the opportunities to find and express the amazing qualities that are in them.

So if you fancy popping down to say hello and maybe even find yourself a treasure, we’ll be at Cranbrook Community Centre this Saturday, 12-3pm, (Mace Street, Bethnal Green, E2 0QS).
